Are YOU a carer? Perhaps we can help you.
The aim of the Group is to relax over a cuppa, share information that may be helpful and to give support to each other. Often carers are very isolated in the community and their needs are seldom understood by others. The company and friendly ear of someone with the same challenges can be a positive experience.
The Meetings originated some seven years ago as part of the Horizon Foundation (then known as H.A.R.D.). They have grown and branched out to all types of carers since then but are still supported by Horizon as well as the Carers Queensland (previously known as Queensland Council of Carers) and the Redland Shire Council.
We meet from 10.00am to 12noon on the first Tuesday of every month at the Meeting Room, (Library Building), Capalaba Place, Noeleen Street, Capalaba. This group is open to all those caring for relatives or friends with a disability, be it intellectual, physical, age-related or psychiatric.
The Group sometimes has guest speakers on subjects of interest such as Guardianship Laws, Wills, Departmental funding, other community services, etc. - even foot care and a relaxing foot massage.
Carers are asked to let the meeting know what information they need and every attempt is made to provide it. Meetings are very informal, there are no fees and new members are always welcome. Carers should feel free to drop in at any time during any meeting for as long as they want.
Please contact Carers Queensland for the next meeting.
We take this opportunity to wish you all a very safe and Merry Christmas. |
